Sherburne County DFLer Comments on Michele Bachmann

Commentary by Tom Beckfeld on the Sherburne County DFL website:

Did she really say that?

Our Congressperson Michele Bachmann is known for being on the far right fringes of today’s political climate but the statements made by her recently make me wonder if she’s not on the verge of insanity. In an interview with Larry Schumacher published in his pod cast Bachmann had several remarkable quotes.

In speaking about the sectarian civil war in Iraq, She said (and I’m not making this up)

“I don’t accept the scenario that’s it’s a simple civil war, with a proviso that there is a measure of fighting, most definitely between the Shia and the Sunni. But let’s remember, the Shia and Sunni were fast friends for years. This is a recent development that has come up. They’ll go back to being brothers again in their country and they won’t be hated enemies…This isn’t like Bosnia,”

Well she got one thing right; this isn’t a simple civil war.

Bachmann saved her most outrageous statements about a secret deal between Iran and Iraq, one which apparently only she knows about.

“Iran is the trouble maker, trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And do you know why? It’s because they’ve (Iran & Iraq) already decided to partition Iraq. And half of Iraq, the western, northern portion of Iraq, is going to be called, um, the the Iraq State of Islam something like that. And I’m sorry, I don’t have the official name, but it’s meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made. They are going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a terrorist free safe haven zone….”

Now I know many of you are thinking that this is just that nutty Bachmann. But keep in mind that nutty Bachmann is now a U.S. Congressperson, assistant minority whip in the House of Representative no less. She states here in no uncertain terms that an agreement has been reached between the governments of Iraq and Iran that cedes half of Iraqi territories to the Nation of Iran for the purpose of waging war against the United States and its Allies. She does this with a smile on her face and all the casualness of ordering a latte at Starbucks.

How can we take anything this woman says with the seriousness it deserves?

Imagine for a moment that this statement came from another congressperson say Nancy Pelosi or Keith Ellison, anybody with credibility. The News media would be going crazy. But from Bachmann everybody seems to expect that a crazy statement is the norm for her. Well folks for the next two years we will tell you what Bachmann says and does.

Tom Beckfeld also has an update on Michele Bachmann's pal Rep. Mark Olson. You can read that at the Sherburne County DFL website or the Dump Mark Olson Blog.
