Republicans lie on Wetterling's voting record

ANOKA, Minn. - In a mailing that came out from the Republican National Committee, Republicans falsely claim that 6th District congressional candidate Patty Wetterling failed to vote in 2000, 2002 and 2004.

"They're trying to say that I didn't vote for myself in '04," says Wetterling, "I think the 6th District knows better than to believe that."

Corey Day, Wetterling's campaign manager, says that the false assertion is a clear example of how Michele Bachmann, Wetterling's Republican opponent, and her Washington friends will blatantly lie and deceive voters in an effort to win the election.

"If Republicans had checked the voting records, they would have seen that Patty voted in the 2004 general and primary elections, and the 2002 and 2000 general elections," Day says.

"Voters will need to decide if they want to elect someone like Michele Bachmann who accepts the support of national Republicans in the use of slanderous, untrue information in order to get ahead," says Day. "Michele Bachmann is just as extreme in her campaign tactics as she is on the issues."

"Bachmann's people are already trying to smear Patty Wetterling," he adds. "Their statement is a lie and voters won't fall for it."

I also heard from a Republican source that this was bogus.

UPDATE: Jeff Kouba comments that this is a bit lame over on Bachmann v Wetterling.
