Breaking News! Michele Bachmann Attends a Committee Hearing!

Ofcourse it's about the Bachmann amendment. The hearing is available on video. Has Bachmann attended any other committee hearings this session? What about floor sessions (besides the floor session where she and others were attempting to pull the Bachmann amendment to the floor)?

Bachmann's stepsister, Helen LeFave attended the hearing - along with her partner, sister and nephew in opposition to the amendment. About a year ago, she sent a letter to the editor of the Strib:

Traditional in her own way

For someone whose dream job has always been that of a wife and mother, state Sen. Michele Bachmann seems to have made an odd career choice. The Jan. 1 photo depicting her vacuuming in heels is just as confusing. Perhaps what she really meant to say is that her dream job has always been that of politician and actress.

Helen LaFave, Minneapolis.

The results: 5-4 against the amendment along party lines.

Update: Actually it's interesting what happened. Senator Neuville proposed to substitute language that would strip the courts of the ability to decide on the issue of marriage and legal equivalents - and the amendment was accepted - 5-4 - with Betzold voting for this amended version. Then Neuville made a motion to send the revised amendment to the rules committee without recommendation. This amendment failed on party lines.

Neuville and Limmer were tag teaming on this one. It reminded me of how they were tag teaming to make sure the sodomy statute stayed on the books.
