Back in 2004, when Michele Bachmann was talking about PRT:
"Supporters range from Minneapolis City Council member Dean Zimmerman, a Green Party member, to Republican Sen. Michelle Bachmann of Stillwater. Bachmann says personal rapid transit, like many political issues, creates strange bedfellows.
"People on the right, people on the left, we have the common goal of moving people with transit, but doing it in the most cost-effective manner, in fact, in a manner that may end up costing no government subsidy, it may end up paying for itself," she says."
Since Councilman Zimmermann and two other PRT-promoting Minneapolis City Council candidates lost their elections on November 8th, the spectrum of political support for the PRT boondoggle in Minnesota has shifted to the extreme right-wingers like Michele Bachmann and Rep. Mark Olson.
The only liberal Minnesota institution promoting PRT is the Institute for Local Self Reliance (ILSR). A few years back, the ILSR's David Morris criticized Elwyn Tinklenberg's support for LRT in the Strib. The ILSR has the article on its website.
Will David Morris and the ILSR continue to oppose the transit policies of Elwyn Tinklenberg and support Michele Bachmann's totally bogus PRT proposal?
Will David Morris and the ILSR continue to allow the Citizens for Personal Rapid Transit (CPRT) to list the ILSR along with the Reason Foundation and Wendell Cox on their links page?
Speaking of the CPRT, the CPRT's David Gow, who likes to call himself a "PRT Liberal" has this to say about the satire on the Michele Bachmann Fun Page:
"Does anyone deserve this? (even right-wingers?)"
Speaking of Mr. Gow and his fellow Seattle PRTers, there's a recent, hilarious discussion about PRT on the Seattle PI web board.
I wrote this op-ed in the Seattle PI about PRT in August.
David Gow thinks I am the person behind the screen name "Soul Not Sold to Road Warriors"... I am not, however I think SNSRW is right about PRT (and funny, too). Gow also has an entire blog on me. ... at least I think it's about me (Gow spells my name with asterisks for some weird reason). |
