Bunch of Michele Bachmann Wannabees in Kansas

You'd think they'd have learned from making the mistake of removing evolution from their science classes several years ago. Pharyngula comments. Josh Rosenau blogs from the ground in Kansas.

You can weigh in with Kansas Board of Education members:

Here's what one Dump Bachmann reader sent them:

Dear Board of Education members:

I'm a writer, but I cannot even find the words to describe what complete jackasses you people are making of your entire state. To think that a Board of Education in the year 2005 is debating the validity of evolution and whether Bible fantasies should be substituted for scientific fact in school classrooms is simply mind-boggling.

If I ever am in the position of hiring people, I can assure you that an applicant's resume indicating "educated in Kansas" would guarantee rejection. Period. Because I wouldn't want to have to embarrass an applicant by asking him or her whether they believed the earth was round or flat.

Recall the Michele Bachmann model of evolutionary history. PZ Myers at Pharyngula does the honors.

Many people, however, confuse evolution with natural selection, Bachmann said — "And natural selection is not the same thing as evolution. "No one that I know disagrees with natural selection — that you can take various breeds of dogs ... breed them, you get different kinds of dogs," she said. "It's just a fact of life. ... Where there's controversy is (at the question) 'Where do we say that a cell became a blade of grass, which became a starfish, which became a cat, which became a donkey, which became a human being?' There’s a real lack of evidence from change from actual species to a different type of species. That's where it's difficult to prove."

I hear stupid things from creationists all the time. Could a dog evolve into a cat? If humans evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? But this example of astounding ignorance, from someone who proposes to lead our state in reforming our educational system, is one of the most ridiculous caricatures of evolution I've ever heard. This is her model of our evolutionary history?

cell --> grass --> starfish --> cat --> donkey --> human
